North Shore PET Imaging Center receives accreditation for PET imaging
North Shore PET Imaging Center (Peabody, Mass) has been awarded a 3-year term of accreditation in PET as a result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR of Reston, Va). North Shore PET is the first facility in Massachusetts to receive this honor. The ACR awards accreditation to imaging facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Expert board-certified physicians and medical physicists conduct the evaluations. The surveyors report their findings to the ACR's committee on accreditation, which provides the practice with a comprehensive report. North Shore PET's PET/CT scanners are contained in a mobile unit that travels to attend to residents of the North Shore region, approximately 20 miles north of Boston. North Shore PET started in August 2004 and began offering PET/CT services in January 2005. The center was among the first to make PET/CT imaging accessible to patients on the North Shore; those patients previously had to travel to Boston to obtain the exam.
