IMAGE Information Systems gains rights to K-PACSK-PACS, a DICOM viewing application, now has a rightful owner: IMAGE Information Systems Ltd (IIS of London). Andreas Knopke, MD, the head of K-PACS, and Rafael Sanguinetti Gallinal, electrical engineer and head of Charrua Vista Software (Montevideo, Uruguay), have signed a contract with IIS managers Mike T. Jensen and Arpad Bischof, MD. IIS now claims exclusive commercial rights to the software.
The companies will work together to integrate professional features into K-PACS, including DICOM print, TWAIN, direct show interface, structured reporting, 3-D features, and HIS/RIS integration. The application will be a certified medical product, according to the medical device regulations ISO 13485 and FDA 510(k); it qualifies for regular use in healthcare.
"The freeware version of K-PACS will continue to exist and be even further developed in order to expand the ever-growing K-PACS community," Jensen said. "All the functions will still be available in the freeware versions without any limitations."
