I always view the new year as a great opportunity to make changes-in my life, my health, my habits, and my job. You'll notice improvements in the latter right here in this issue.

For starters, we've added a new department to the magazine. "Step by Step" highlights the questions to ask, the items to consider, and the steps to take for purchasing or implementing a new product or technology. In the department's debut, writer Renee DiIulio highlights the process for purchasing a new printer. She provides questions to ask potential vendors and highlights a handful of current product offerings. In future months, DiIulio will be featuring such topics as monitors, data archiving standards, financing and leasing, and redesigning a radiology reading room.

"Informatics Report" also is a new addition. Columnist Michael Mack will comment on current trends in healthcare IT. In his inaugural column, Mack offers a different take on installing a PACS: the inevitable political agendas of the involved parties that need to be taken into consideration if the project is to succeed. (If you have specific questions for Mack or topics you'd like to see addressed, I'd like to hear from you.)

Also new to Medical Imaging is our first-ever editorial advisory board (EAB). The magazine is now in its 20th year, and it's a good time to develop an EAB that can offer insider's advice and guidance. Our initial EAB consists of nine men and women from around the country who are leaders in the industry.

So, what kind of changes will you be implementing this year? If you're looking to make some improvements with your career, don't miss "Resolutions for Evolution". Our cover story lists 10 tips for successful career advancement and professional development. From setting the best goals to joining the right societies, the suggestions are tailored to your industry, replete with expert advice.

One tip not mentioned, however, is how to become a board member of relevant associations and publications. Having just started our new EAB with nine members, we will be adding new members throughout the year. If you are interested in joining our board, please contact me directly.
