Are You Ready for RSNA?

by Andi Lucas

It's hard to believe that more than a year has passed since I've been the editor of Medical Imaging. And it's even harder to fathom that just 1 year ago, I attended my first Annual Meeting and Scientific Session of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA of Chicago). Believe it or not, it's here, and we've worked hard to put together an exceptional package of information to prepare you for the 90th year of the RSNA event. We all know how critical this week is, and it requires much planning in order to get the most out of it.

Our Get-Ready-for-RSNA Package spans almost 30 pages in the printed issue. As usual, we have a preview of what will be showcased in the Technical Exhibits. Grouped by modality and type, the preview highlights almost 150 different products, technologies, and services.

The rest of the RSNA Preview package, however, is all new to Medical Imaging. For "In a Nutshell," we chatted with representatives at RSNA to find out the scoop on attendance projections as well as the answer to a burning question: Is the Annual Meeting leaving Chicago? Then, we've compiled a dining-out guide for RSNA attendees, called "Let's Eat!" After speaking with concierges from top Chicago hotels and hearing their recommendations, we talked with the restaurant owners and managers themselves and pulled together a list of 10 restaurants. They're all a quick cab ride from McCormick Place, and they're all perfect for client lunches or dinners-because we all know that many big decisions are made over a meal.

The final piece of our RSNA puzzle highlights an off-the-beaten-path look at Chicago. The RSNA offers more than 30 different tours of the city, so we've given you the scoop on some of the lesser-known places, including explicit instructions to see Al Capone's grave.

Plus, sprinkled throughout the entire RSNA package are short sidebars of information geared toward making your trip to Chicago easy, interesting, and (gasp) fun. One of these sidebars includes fast facts about RSNA, and another lists trivia about the city itself.

And it's not just the RSNA Preview that features great on-the-side information. In "The Fine Nine", we compiled nine tips from PACS administrators at different sized facilities about the best process for choosing the right PACS vendor. The information listed in this sidebar definitely will be a benefit to have on hand at RSNA. "Conversation Starters" gives you a list of specific questions to ask PACS providers at the show that you're potentially thinking of hiring for your upcoming PACS implementation.

If you think you might want to share the list (or anything else in the magazine, for that matter) with a colleague or friend but are hesitant about surrendering your copy, don't fret. We recently gave our Web site an overhaul, and every bit of editorial is posted-and then some-right here. It's easier to navigate and has the same look and feel as the print version of Medical Imaging that you've come to know so well.

As always, I look forward to your feedback on both the print and Web versions of the publication. Your thoughts, your questions, your voice-they're what make Medical Imaging the success it has been for nearly 20 years. Make it a point to stop by to see us at RSNA. We'll be in the South Building, Hall A, Booth 2616. See you there!
