ACR Helps Imagers Meet the New UnitedHealthcare Accreditation Standard
The American College of Radiology (ACR) is prepared to help imaging providers comply with a new set of diagnostic imaging standards that have been established by one of the nation's largest health care systems.
UnitedHealthcare's Imaging Accreditation standard, which goes into effect on March 1, 2008, recognizes accreditation from the ACR as a means to ensure quality imaging services nationwide.
To make the process as smooth as possible, an ACR / UnitedHealthcare Accreditation Help Desk has been established, providing access to a podcast from Arl Van Moore, MD, chairman of the ACR Board of Chancellors; an ACR Accreditation Hotline number; extensive information and answers to pertinent questions; and an online application. The ACR also has augmented its staff of certified radiologic technologists to readily guide providers through the accreditation process.
According to the ACR, accreditation is an efficient process of both self-assessment and independent external expert audit, based on the ACR guidelines and technical standards, which assesses the qualifications of personnel, policies and procedures, equipment specifications, QA activities, patient safety, and, ultimately, the quality of patient care.
