The close of the year brought new beginnings for three individuals joining the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO) in varying capacities.
David Adler joins ASTRO's Government Relations Department as the organization's new Government Relations Representative. In this role, he will promote the life-saving benefits of radiation therapy on Capitol Hill and with Washington policymakers.
Positions held by Adler prior to joining ASTRO include working as the director of government affairs for the American Health Quality Association (AHQA) and as a journalist and editor for newspapers and publications.
ASTRO found its new general counsel in Laura Steeves Gogal, who will manage the Society's legal activities and advise on health care-related policy issues.
Gogal previously served as vice president and chief counsel for the Federation of American Hospitals, where she focused on such legal health policy issues as confidentiality, fraud and abuse, self-referral, Medicare, and health care liability.
Rounding out its new additions, ASTRO added Laura I. Thevenot to the board of directors for the National Coalition for Cancer Research (NCCR).
Thevenot, who also is ASTRO's CEO, will serve a 3-year term beginning this month. She will attend NCCR meetings and foster the educational and governmental facets of NCCR in the cancer community
